The choir was formed initially as an evening class by Peter Davies in 1986 with just 18 members, five of whom have remained members to the current day. It is an enthusiastic and friendly group which helps to raise funds for local churches and other good causes, as well as promoting an enjoyment in music. Over the years the choir has grown considerably and three years ago Shirley Allen joined the choir as it’s current Musical Director.
In October, the Choir reached its 21st anniversary and our Patron, Dame Norma Major, led the celebrations. Dame Norma has been Patron of the choir for many years and members were delighted that she was able to join them, along with their families and friends, for this memorable event.
Dame Norma Major celebrates with (l to r) Chorale Founder Peter Davies, Shirley Allen and Chairman Peter Comeau
The choir meets every Wednesday evening in term time at 7.45 pm at Sawtry Community College but will be moving to Sawtry Methodist Hall in January 2008.
If you enjoy singing and are interested in joining Sawtry Chorale, please come along to a rehearsal and meet us.
There are no auditions and you do not need to be able to read music.
